Why go to counselling?
Counselling can help with a wide range of issues. Some people pursue counselling when they are in ‘crisis’, with an urgent need to deal with really painful feelings. Others have a very specific issue they would like to understand through the counselling process. Some people begin counselling to deal with something in the past or if they are experiencing significant life events such as getting married, starting a family, leaving home for the first time or coming to terms with the death of a loved one. Undertaking therapy can be a very rewarding experience, but it does require commitment from the client.
How regularly should I have counselling sessions?
Most therapists tend to recommend weekly sessions when a client first decides to undertake counselling, as it contributes to a feeling of safety and trust that allows the client and therapist to work on a deeper, more effective level. However, this does not always suit everyone, maybe because of work or family commitments, therefore fortnightly appointments are available. I can also offer an extended ‘one off’ counselling session to clients with a very focused approach to deal with a specific issue.
What happens if I have to cancel a session?
Sessions cancelled with over 24 hours notice can be rearranged at no extra cost. Sessions cancelled with under 24 hours notice will be charged at the normal session rate.
